Day Out With Thomas 2010

We went on our annual Day Out With Thomas trip this past Friday.  We went the first time when Benjamin was almost 2 and have gone every year since.  I have been surprised that Benjamin continues to love it so much every year.  He is already talking about going next year when Thomas comes to Tweetsie Railroad.

Off To The Dentist

It was time for the kids' six-month dental checkups this past week.  This was the first time for Sarah and third time for Benjamin.  Just as we had prepared Benjamin for his first time, we prepared Sarah by reading the Dora dentist book, discussing the details on each page, and explaining everything that was going to happen.  Sarah was so excited every time we read the book, and I was hoping that we actually might have an easy trip to the dentist this time.  I was halfway right.

The dental hygienist (Miss Kelly) came to get Benjamin in the waiting room.  We decided to let Sarah go first because she was so excited and Benjamin was being grumpy about being there.  I stayed back with Benjamin and finished filling out Sarah's new paperwork.  Sarah walked right back and hopped right into the dental chair and played with a toy while Miss Kelly and Geoff talked.  When Geoff and Miss Kelly were done talking, she laid Sarah back in the chair to clean her teeth.  She was a perfect little angel.  She opened her mouth wide, she sat still and did everything she was told.  It was fabulous.

Then, it was Benjamin's turn.  I could just stop right there and we could pretend that he was a perfect little angel like Sarah.  But, all of you who know Benjamin would know that just isn't true.  He wouldn't still in the chair, screamed his head off and told the dentist to "Stop it!" and "Get off of me!".  He acted worse than he did the first two times he went put together.  Should the two year-old be the one showing the almost-five year-old how to be a "big boy"?  Good times!!

Like to Play Soccer

I signed both kids up for soccer this year at a place in Morrisville called Lil Kickers.  It is an indoor instructional soccer program for little kids 18 months and up.  Sarah's group requires parents to participate and Benjamin's group encourages parents to not be on the field with their child.  Sarah loved it from the minute she walked in the building.  Benjamin wanted Geoff to hold his hand the whole time and wouldn't really participate.  Sarah's group does all sorts of games that are always adorable to watch. It is amazing how well these young kids listen to the coach and how well they can kick a soccer ball.

Sick Day

He even smiled for the picture when he felt so bad
I woke up today so excited because we were going to spend the day at Falls Lake with the Brighams on their boat.  I got up early, took a shower and had my plan in my head of all the stuff I needed to pack up.  I walked out in the living room and got a huge smile and a "hi Mommy" from my precious Sarah and barely a word from Benjamin.  Immediately, I asked what was wrong and he said "nothing."  I thought it was weird, but I had my plan I needed to work on.  Benjamin mentioned that he wanted to stay home with Nana and didn't want to go on the boat.  Again, I thought it was odd because he always loves to play with Michael and Matthew.  I told him that Michael and Matthew would be disappointed if he didn't come and basically told him he had to go.  I started working on the getting drinks together and thinking about what I was going to take for lunch.  Benjamin came to me with a sick look on his face and said he felt like he was going to throw up.  I picked him up and raced him to the bathroom, but he didn't quite make it.  He threw up several more times during the day, but did a great job of making it to the bathroom each time.  We spent the day on couch watching Curious George, eating crackers, toast and water.  He was feeling a little better when he went to bed.  I am just praying for an uneventful night.
Finally fell asleep

Meeting Hanna

We went to the Walkers' (Vince, Brandi, Davis and Hanna) last night for dinner to hang out and meet their new daughter and sister, Hanna.  They just adopted her from China a month ago and we were all very excited to meet her.  Sarah kept saying, "meet Hanna, meet Hanna" all day yesterday.  She and Sarah had a blast and gave each other big hugs and kisses when we left.  Benjamin and Davis have been friends since Benjamin was born and Davis was six months old, so Benjamin always enjoys seeing his buddy.

First Day of Preschool

What a great day.  Benjamin started his first day of 4 year old preschool and Sarah started preschool for the first time.  I always get a little nervous about taking Benjamin to something new.  My stomach actually turns and churns.  He is famous for screaming bloody murder and holding on to us for dear life.  We had a totally different day today, though.  He gave Sarah and me hugs and kisses, walked right into his class, hung up his school bag and didn't look back.  Miracles truly do occur.

Sarah, my little social butterfly was so happy to be going to preschool.  She tried to go into Benjamin's class, but I told her we needed to go to her class.  She started jumping up and down the hall saying, "my class, my class."  I walked her into her class and she bolted to find the toy babies.  I told her good-bye, and she barely said anything, turned around, and kept playing.

Both of their teachers said that they had fabulous days.  Mommy is very happy.
